Matt Leon
Director of Pitching, Performance, and Operations
Matt Leon is a former professional pitcher whose journey from college walk-on to pro athlete is a story of grit, growth, and relentless dedication. After a standout career at Seton Hall University, he went on to play in the Los Angeles Angels organization and multiple independent leagues before transitioning into player development.
Originally from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Matt walked on to the Seton Hall baseball team and quickly became a cornerstone of the Pirates’ bullpen. Over four seasons (2015–2018), he made 88 appearances, posted a 2.98 ERA, and recorded 121 strikeouts over 136 innings.
As a senior, he delivered one of the best seasons in program history:
- 12 saves (school single-season record)
- Led the BIG EAST in saves, appearances, games finished, and relief outings
- 1.17 ERA - one of the lowest in Seton Hall history
- Named to the All-BIG EAST First Team
- Earned Seton Hall’s Academic Merit Award
By the time he graduated, Matt ranked:
- #1 in single-season saves
- #2 all-time in saves
- #2 all-time in appearances

In June 2018, Leon signed a free-agent contract with the Los Angeles Angels. He played across the AZL, Short Season, and Low A. Over two seasons in the Angels’ minor league system, he compiled an 8–9 record with a 4.73 ERA and 134 strikeouts in 135 innings across 39 games, including 19 starts . The week of 6/30/2019 Matt was named the Pioneer League Pitcher of the Week.
Now focused on coaching and development, Matt brings years of experience in both pitching and strength training. He’s trained athletes across all levels — from youth to professional — and has personally developed his own velocity program, reaching 95+ mph. His coaching is built on a foundation of lived experience, biomechanical insight, and a relentless drive to help players perform at their highest level.
Matt’s progression from overlooked walk-on to professional athlete and mentor underscores his passion for the game — and his commitment to developing the next generation of elite pitchers.
